To get rid of the soldering fumes, I re-purposed one of the fans I salvaged from an old office printer:
The fan is hot-glued into a card-board tube which also allows easy positioning of the fume extractor. The flexible tube attached to the end is long enough to reach out of the next window, so no fume filtering is needed.
This makes soldering way more comfortable, and during winter I can fill the window gaps around the exhaust tube with pillows. Smoke-free soldering without freezing! 😀
This is a great tip! I love that solder smell on my pillows! In all seriousness, this is ironic because I just made nearly the same setup just a few days ago – hot glue and all. I opted for the other direction for my cardboard where that piece goes out the window. Any particular reason for the choice of direction?
Initially the thing was just a long cardboard tube sticking out the window. But because this wasn’t very flexible in use, I replaced the longer section with the tube. But I think this ways it is actually easier to position, as you can just stand it next to what you solder …

Nice 🙂 Mine is running on 24V from an old laptop power supply.
