This Year so far

A perfect Winter

This winter we received a fair amount of snow early on and it stayed cold continuously resulting in really good snow-conditions throughout the whole winter. Aside the usual cross-country skiing, touring-skiing, and snowboarding, I also organised a horse-sleigh-ride with the Outdoor Trondheim Meetup and went dog-sleigh riding with my mother who visited me.
Aside the outdoor activities, there were plenty of good concerts all across town and also the monthly mapathons I am organising as part of my new engagement with Engineers without Borders.
The cats were of course getting frustrated by the masses of useless white stuff outside, blocking their way to the usual ‘hunting grounds’ 😉

Finally Snow!

After a rather murky and rainy December, snow finally arrived short after midnight of the first day of the new year. As my last day of new-years-holidays turned out to be a perfect cold and sunny winter day, me and a friend went out to Bymarka for a nice cross-country skiing trip. The beautiful sunshine also lured Odin, our local free-roaming pony, out of his shed. The trip of course included a waffles-and-hot-chocolate-stop at Skistua and some wilderness skiing along an unprepared forest trail.

Following the theme of my previous post, I ended the day with a nice gypsy-jazz concert with Leslie Dawn Knowles (violin), Mark Tetreault (tuba), and Skjalg Raaen (guitar) at Ila Brainnstasjon.

So it has been slightly over two years now, and I must say I love this place. From beautiful nature, interesting city live, and a good music scene to the new water-front with bbq, it has it all!

Bymarka Tur

What happened since May

June

Preparing for the move. With some resistance from the cat 😉 we managed to sell of a large portion of our furniture and also my car.

Watching finn.no for a place to move to, we found a beautiful house in the forest at the outskirts of Trondheim. With the support of Expat Mid-Norway we got some more photos and quickly settled the contract.

July

13th: Farewell party at Café Hofgut Oberfeld

22nd: Doctor Exam

23th: The moving company picks up our boxes, 24th: Cleaning the flat, 25th: Flight to Trondheim

August

We moved into our new home and explored our new surroundings. A small step for our cat but a giant leap for the mice in the area 😉 After searching for nearly a month, we found a nice used 4wd car.

September

I started working at MARINTEK in the SIMA team. The Norwegian Marine Technology Research Institute is located directly underneath the TV tower of Trondheim, Tyholt. In the SIMA team, we develop a workbench for the simulation of maritime applications. Various physics engines are integrated under the same hood and are made easily accessible to the user.
In the spare time, we went on exploring our new home and cleaned out an old shed on the property to make space for our bicycles.

October

For heating in winter we decided to use the fireplace more often and ordered some wood. The wood got delivered just in time for the first snow this year. 🙂 With snow all around us, it was definitely time to switch to winter tires.

Now

Just got back from Eclipse Con Europe 2013 in Ludwigsburg, which I combined with visiting my mum, grandma (she turned 94!) and dad.
So far for now, we are looking forward to winter and plenty of snow! 🙂
